Consultation open on London Wholesale Market's move to Dagenham Docks
Consultation Open til 2nd March 2020 - Wholesale Markets in Dagenham Dock
21 February 2020
The City of London Corporation intends to move its three wholesale food markets to a new site in Dagenham Dock to create a significant new food wholesale location for London (marked in green just north of the Thames in the map below).
The scheme will see Billingsgate, Smithfields and New Spitalfields come under one roof. This will likely have a significant affect on the London Riverside BID area, both during construction and once the markets are up and running.
Consultation on the scheme is now open and it's your opportunity to respond to the plans. Our collective responses are important so that the views of the BID area's businesses are heard and our concerns addressed. By responding you will also be kept informed by the City of London Corporation of developments as they arise.
The BID's Board welcomes such investment in the area, which can lead to the creation of good jobs and the prospect of knock-on opportunities for the wider business community.
In response to this consultation we will be highlighting the need to ensure that the interests of all our Members are protected. We'll be scrutinising closely any plans to re-design sections of the A13, which may involve re-routed traffic during the construction phases. This is an area that we urge you to respond to as well.
Some or all of the following issues might also be of concern to local businesses:
- disruption and pollution during construction
- impact on public transport and how proposals for new routes can benefit businesses in Rainham
- mitigation of wider environmental impacts
- benefits for businesses in the London Riverside BID and Rainham area
- how opening up use of the river for freight transportation can benefit the wider business community
- likely pressure on utilities and other infrastructure
You can have your say here, where you will find links to the available documents and information.
Please feel free to send a copy of your response to the BID team at [email protected] so we can support your submissions as best we can.
