Have your say: Beam Parkway Consultation on the development of New Road the A1306
Beam Parkway consultation now open
Residents, businesses, communities and stakeholders are invited to have their say on the plans for the transformation of New Road, the A1306
Businesses, in particular, are encouraged to respond to the consultation as there is likely to be a significant impact (through disruption and redesign of roads), both during and after the works. It’s important that the benefits and the risks are fully considered by all business owners along thr A1306 and in neighbouring roads so they can minimise or mitigate disruption and understand the potential impact on trade.
In summary, the London Borough of Havering has secured £4.5m of funding from the Mayor of London and £1.8m from Transport for London (TfL) to progress plans to transform New Road (the A1306) in South Hornchurch.
The area around New Road was designated as the Rainham and Beam Park Housing Zone in 2015 and will offer around 3,500 new homes, community facilities, a new school and a new train station on the C2C line which will be known as Beam Park.
Beam Parkway is a development within these wider plans to transform New Road, aimed at improving the environment for people already living in the area, as well as for new residents. The scheme aims to encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport more, so as to contribute to improved health and air quality. The plans seek to transform New Road into a greener and more pleasant place to spend time in and live next to.
This will inevitably involve changes to road layouts, the width and prominence of the road itself and design that prioritises pedestrians and cyclists over vehicles.
